Approach

Curious and Competent young learners

Our approach to early care and education of children positions each child as a competent and capable young learner who constructs their own knowledge from their experiences and interactions with the world around them. Children bring with them a variety of skills, knowledge and understanding related to their unique experiences in life. Our dedicated team of educators foster children’s growth and development by building on children’s interests, needs and strengths within a safe and caring environment.

Partnership with families

At Oakleigh Early Learning journey we acknowledge parents as the first and most influential educators of their children and we partner with each family to support their child’s learning and development. Each child’s unique family background and experiences are reflected in our centre to support each child’s sense of identity and belonging. Our service’s doors are open to all families and we value each family’s cultural and family background.

Importance of the early years

“Children’s brains are built, moment by moment, as they interact with their environments. In the first few years of life, more than one million neural connections are formed each second – a pace never repeated again” (UNICEF; 2022).

Over the course of a child’s life, it is within the first five years that the human brain experiences its most critical period of development. During this time, more wiring takes place than any other time in life. The quality of a child’s early childhood education makes a significant to contribution to their future. Our dedicated team of educators support each child’s right to thrive and learn by providing them a play-based learning environment that allows each child to leave their comfort zone to explore and contribute to their world as confident and involved learners.
